Obituary of George Stoops

George Allen Stoops, 80, of Warminster, passed away Monday, July 31, 2017, at Meadowood Senior Living. He was the husband of Dolores (McCabe-Guzzardo) to whom he has been married for 35 years.

Born June 30, 1937 in Wilmington DE, he was the son of the late George L. Stoops and Evelyn M. (Brown) Stoops. He was a 1955 graduate of Delaware High School, and furthered his studies at the General Motors Institute, Flint Michigan, now Kettering University. George graduated with honors, and received the degree of Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering, August 25, 1960.

Georges was first and foremost an Engineer, his talent in designing, troubleshooting, and overseeing the building of packaging machinery earned him several awards. He worked mostly in plastics, but his claim to fame, the Coors Lite packaging. When not at work, George loved boating. Not a sail boat, not an aluminum boat, or fiberglass, but those ‘ol wooden boats that require scraping, sanding, and repainting each year.

George was an avid reader, visiting his library sometimes twice a week, and he liked to cook, Chili being his specialty. But truly George was at his happiest out on the water. He loved to explore the Chesapeake, where his father (Pappy), a boat builder, took marine biology students out onto the river. In 1982 George and Dolores relocated to Wheaton, IL, where they spent several summers exploring the Mississippi river in the small wooden Starcraft “Doagie”. Ultimately their voyages would include traveling 700 miles up and down the river.

After returning to Pennsylvania in 1986, George enjoyed summer weekends on the boat “Dolores Anne”, and later the "Georgie Girl", with his wife Dolores, marina friends, and his family at Laurel Harbor Marina, on Forked River in Lanoka Harbor, NJ, where many great memories were made.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his children, Jeffrey and Aggie Stoops, and their children. Kevin Stoops and his children, and the children of Kimberly (Stoops) Baccino.
