Obituary of John F. Smart, Jr.
John F. Smart, Jr., 80, a resident of Skippack, PA for the last 20 years, passed away Saturday afternoon, June 4, 2022. He and his wife, Agnes (Ridgway) Smart, would have celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary on June 8th of this year. They were former long-time residents of Lederach, PA.
Born October 9, 1941, in Norristown, PA, he was the son of the late John F. Smart, Sr. and Regina (Kelly) Smart. He was a 1959 graduate of Ambler High School and earned his bachelor’s degree in business from La Salle University in June of 1963. John was also a United States Army veteran.
After serving his active duty in the Army, John pursued a life-long career as an insurance broker. He was a very active member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Schwenksville, PA for 48 years. He was an avid golfer and active member of Cedarbrook Country Club in Blue Bell, PA. He was a supporter of the La Salle University Alumni Association and an enthusiastic member of the La Salle Explorers Club. He had a passion for Philadelphia sports, especially his beloved Phillies. His love of horses and horse racing led him to become an owner of Arabian horses. John enjoyed dining out and sharing this enthusiasm with his friends and family, especially his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, John R. Smart and his wife, Sharon, of Philadelphia, a daughter, Candise Smart and her husband, Vince D’Andrea, of Ambler, and four grandchildren, Carly, Devon, Becca and Colin. He was preceded in death by his Grandson Jake Smart on April 10th of this year. He is also survived by three sisters, Judith DeGideo and her husband, Thomas, of Lansdale, Patricia Rotelli (wife of the late Alex Rotelli), of Ambler, and Susan Scott and her husband, Keith, of North Wales, and many loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral mass at 12:30pm on Friday, June 10th at St. Mary Catholic Church, 40 Spring Mount Road, Schwenksville, PA, where family will receive friends from 11am – 12:15pm. Interment will be private at Washington Crossing National Cemetery in Newtown, PA.
