Mary Maher

Obituary of Mary Maher

Mary (Madigan) Maher passed away Monday, May 2, 2022, at Meadowood Senior Living in Worcester, PA. She was the beloved wife of Hugh Maher. Hugh and Mary were planning on celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary on May 5th.

Born in 1933 and raised in New Jersey, Teaneck and Allenhurst; Mary graduated from Holy Angels Academy and then from the College of Notre Dame of Maryland.  She worked as a research biologist at Squibb for several years until her marriage in 1962.

She became a volunteer at Recording for the Blind and took special joy in the work relating to the scientific texts because of her background.  Her husband was President of Germantown Hospital and thus she volunteered and worked for causes relating to the hospital for over thirty years. Her home was the site of many meetings and even fundraising flower sales. She loved being a mother, was good at it, and stayed closely interested in her daughter’s schools.

She especially loved Martha’s Vineyard and the Philadelphia Eagles. When Reggie White was leaving Philadelphia, fans were gathering to say goodbye in Center City. She got on a train to town to join the farewell. Her Eagles green shirts were her favorite color.  She and her husband had been to Martha’s Vineyard in the late 1960s and happened to get a chance to buy a lot in Edgartown. They did so and later built a small Cape Cod cottage and made two visits a year there for many years.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her brothers, Richard from Oceanport, NJ, and Thomas from Coppell, TX.

She was predeceased by her daughter, Mary Trinka Maher, her three sisters and a brother.

Services for Mary will be held at a later date. Online condolences may be made to the family at
