Nora June Gamble

Obituary of Nora June Gamble

Nora June (Lovell) Gamble,92, passed peacefully on April 6, 2022, at her home in Landsdale, Pennsylvania. June was born on September 9, 1929, in Coalport, PA to Cecil and Dorothy Lovell. She graduated at the top of her class at Coalport – Irvona High School and received a scholarship to Dickinson College where she earned a degree in Psychology and met her husband, Paul. June was a lifelong learner and returned to school in her mid-forties, earning her Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Chestnut Hill College.

June and Paul were married in Coalport, PA on December 26, 1951, and recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. June and Paul moved to Audubon, PA in 1960 where they raised their children Paula, Susan, and Tommy in a home filled with love, laughter, music, and friends. June loved to entertain and try out new recipes on her guests. Sunday dinner with family and elaborate gourmet dinners with friends were frequently on her calendar. Friends remember June as the embodiment of the Spirit of Hospitality and Welcome.

June was an active member of the Lower Providence Presbyterian Church, lending her talents and energy to numerous church organizations. She taught and then served as director of the LPPC Preschool. June cherished her Sundays listening to Paul sing in the choir and connecting with her church family.

June was also active in the community, serving on the Lower Providence Planning Commission, volunteering at Mill Grove Sanctuary, and helping to establish the Audubon Women’s Club. She was a member of the Collegeville Garden Club, Pennsylvania Questers, and various book clubs and bridge groups. She played tennis until age 80 and then took up lap swimming.

June loved history, music, art, books, travel, and meeting new people. She was a consummate host to numerous foreign exchange students, showing off the art and history of the Philadelphia area and maintaining friendships with each of her “kids” throughout her life.

June was adventurous and competitive and always happiest surrounded by family and friends. June loved being a grandmother to her six grandchildren and never tired of beating them at cards, being the first one sledding down the hill, or jumping into the waves to body surf.

June is survived by her husband, Paul; her children, Paula (Scott), Susan (David), and Tommy (Sharon); six grandchildren, Logan, Brinton (Megan), Luke, Jacqueline, Jacob, and Emma; and great-granddaughter Zoe.

A celebration of June’s life will be held on Saturday, April 23 at 1:00 PM at Lower Providence Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends following the service.
