Obituary of John B. "Jack" Spielberger
John B. “Jack” Spielberger, 88, a former long-time resident of Lansdale, PA, peacefully passed away Tuesday night, March 22, 2022, at Arbour Square in West Chester, PA with family by his side. He was the loving and devoted husband of the late Helen E. (Morris) Spielberger who passed away April 13, 2002.
Born March 8, 1934, in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late William L. and Regina W. (Ronneburger) Spielberger. He graduated from Roman Catholic High School in 1952 and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in Commerce from Drexel Institute of Technology in 1957. After graduation, Jack served two years of active duty with the US Army Signal Corps stationed in the Philippines as a Radio Operator Repairman.
With his degree from Drexel, Jack found work at Ametek as a systems analyst, where he worked for many years until to his retirement in 1999. He was a faithful member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church where he helped count Sunday offerings. He served on the board of New Beginnings as treasurer and was a knight of the Knights of Columbus.
Jack was an avid stamp collector and a loyal Philadelphia sports fan, cheering on the Phillies and the Eagles at every opportunity. When he was not watching the Phillies and Eagles play, he could be found doing puzzles of all kinds, among his favorites were jigsaw puzzles, crosswords, cryptograms, sudoku puzzles and anagrams. His other hobbies included roller skating, reading, gardening and going for a Sunday drive.
Jack cherished time with his family, routinely attending events for his children and grandchildren. Surviving Jack are his two daughters, Bernadette M. Thorngate and her husband, David Thorngate of Landenberg, PA and Monica L. Wyant of Upper Chichester, PA; six grandchildren, Samantha (Wyant) Sonet and her husband Robert Sonet, of Prospect Park, PA, Brandon Wyant of Chicago, IL, Cynthia Thorngate of West Chester, PA, Autumn Thorngate of Newark, DE, and June Thorngate and Jonathan Thorngate of Landenberg, PA; and his great granddaughter Ruby Sonet of Prospect Park, PA. In addition to his wife, Jack was preceded in death by his two brothers, William J. and Robert W. Spielberger.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral mass at 10:30am on Tuesday March 29, 2022, at Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 1325 Boot Rd, West Chester, PA, where friends may call for the viewing from 9:30-10:15am. Burial will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Philadelphia, PA. For those desiring, contributions may be made in his memory to the Alzheimer’s Association. Arrangements are by the R. L.
