George Hawes Webber, 94, of Lansdale, passed away Monday, January 24, 2022, at Brittany Pointe Estates where he has resided for over 24 years. He was the beloved husband of the late Jane (McDonald) Webber to whom he was married for over 57 years.
Born March 3, 1927, in Philadelphia, PA, he was a son of the late George Sr. and Ethel (Scheffey) Webber. He was raised in Conshohocken and graduated as Salutatorian of his Conshohocken High School class of 1944. He attended Drexel University for one year and then enlisted in the Army Air Corps. He served in the Occupation Force in Wiesbaden, Germany for two years.
Upon returning to the states, he graduated with an engineering degree from Drexel University. George began his career with Allen Wood Steel in Conshohocken, then with B. F. Goodrich in Oaks, and spent the rest of his career with General Electric beginning in King of Prussia and ending in Philadelphia. He served as a board member on the Norristown Area School Board during the 1960s and early 1970s. George met the love of his life, Jane McDonald, at the First Baptist Church in Conshohocken when he was in his early teens. George and Jane were married on August 23, 1947, and enjoyed their lives together traveling and playing bridge until Jane’s passing in 2004. George continued to play bridge and met Penny Szabo who became his bridge partner and companion until his death.
George is survived by his children, Stuart Webber and wife, Joyce Ann, Nancy Ronca, Lisa Webber-Kelly, and Martha Pratico, as well as 7 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Richard Webber and wife, Betsie.
George was predeceased by his brother, Brooke Webber, and his grandson, Miles Kelly.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend George’s memorial service at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 5, 2022, at the Valley Forge Chapel, 2000 Valley Forge Park Road, King of Prussia, PA, 19406, with interment following the service.
