John J. Ervin, of Skippack, PA, passed away at home on Tuesday evening, January 25, 2022. He was 93 years of age. He was the husband of the late Anne Ervin (nee Klemmer), who passed away September 28. 2013.
Born in Philadelphia, PA, he resided in Skippack, PA for the past 20 years and previously had lived in Jenkintown, PA and in the Olney section of Philadelphia, PA. He was the son of the late Robert and Frances (Sauerland) Ervin. John served as an officer in the US Coast Guard aboard the USCGS Campbell and was an instructor at the USCG Academy. He was a graduate of Villanova University and was the president of Trinidad Corp for over 20 years.
John was an avid rower all of his life and even tried out for the 1948 Olympic team. He was the treasurer of the Penn AC Rowing Club where he oversaw many of the programs and renovations of the club. During his tenure as treasurer, the club membership saw a significant increase including opening membership to women rowers. John spent his summers at his historic home in Ocean City, NJ, where he enjoyed playing tennis and spending time on the beach with his family and grandchildren.
He was the father of the late Deborah McIlhinney, and Pamela McDonnell and her husband, Jerome, of Skippack, PA. He is also survived by his sister, Betty Ann Fetter of Lansdale, PA; and seven grandchildren: Joseph McIlhinney, husband of Alicia; Kevin McIlhinney, fiancée of Leigh Novak; Brian McIlhinney, husband of Trisha Low; John McIlhinney, husband of Catherine; Amanda Convery, wife of Michael; Tarren McDonnell and Jacob McDonnell; great grandchildren: Audra, Erin, Joanna, Quinn, Shane and Owen.
