Obituary of Richard H. Lutz, Jr.

Richard H. "Dick" Lutz, Jr., 85, a long-time resident of Skippack Township, PA, passed away in his home surrounded by family on Monday evening, January 17th, 2022. He and his wife, Marlene (Sanders) Lutz, celebrated their 34th wedding anniversary on December 26th of last year.


Born April 22, 1936, in Norristown, PA, he was a son of the late Richard H. Lutz, Sr. and Gertrude (Love) Lutz.


Mr. Lutz owned Lutz’s Coal Yard and Richard H. Lutz & Sons, Inc.  He loved being on the road in his tractor trailer where he was affectionately known as C.J., “Coal Jockey.” He was an all encompassing businessman, whether it was hauling material, creating product, or selling it to communities in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, and Ohio, his hands were in every aspect of his companies.


An avid hunter and outdoorsman, he particularly enjoyed big game hunting in Wyoming, Montana and Colorado. He was a member of Arnot Sportsman’s Club, Roaring Branch Sportsman’s Club, as well as an active lifetime member and supporter of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.


In addition to his wife, he is survived by six children, Jennie Donovan and her husband, Michael, of Pottsgrove, PA, Donna Weisel and her husband, Stephen, of Gilbertsville, PA, Richard J. Lutz of Gilbertsville, PA, Cody Anne Brown and her husband, Robert, of Norwalk, CT, Shane Lutz and his fiancé, Megan Hetrick, of Schwenksville, PA, and Jessica Caprio and her husband, James, of Schwenksville, PA; a sister, Mary Ellen Manze of Pottstown, PA; 13 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon Lutz; and two brothers, Gregory and Baron Lutz.
