Obituary of Edward J. Malone
Edward J. Malone, 84, of Collegeville, passed away Thursday, January 13, 2022, at his residence surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Jerilynn (Bott) Malone to whom he was married for over 57 years.
Born August 7, 1937, in Saginaw, MI, he was a son of the late John and Margaret (Baker) Malone. Ed grew up in Defiance, OH, where he earned the rank of Eagle Scout. He graduated from Notre Dame University in 1959 earning a B.S. in Electrical Engineering. At Notre Dame, Ed was in ROTC where he went on to serve his country in the United States Army. During his service, Ed was involved in missile development in Huntsville, AL, and trained at Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland. Ed was deployed to Germany during the Berlin Crisis in 1961.
After Notre Dame, Ed worked for General Motors for 37 years. During his career at GM, he worked in Milwaukee, Wisconsin at AC Spark Plug (later Delco Electronics) and then moved to Kokomo, Indiana to continue GM employment. In the second half of Ed’s career, he earned an MS in Adult Education from Indiana University and flourished as an Organizational Development (OD) consultant not only for GM but also for the Catholic diocese and other nonprofits.
Ed was involved in many volunteer activities in the community and the Catholic Church. He served as president of the American Cancer Society in Kokomo IN, helped develop the Notre Dame Club and was a member of the Center for Social Concerns in Notre Dame IN.
Ed and Jeri met in 1962 and were married on June 27th, 1964. They enjoyed a fulfilling life together raising their sons. Ed and Jeri retired in 1996 and enjoyed the fruits of retirement for over 25 years which included spending winters in Florida, fishing, boating, and creating pottery. During their retirement years, Ed and Jeri also relocated to PA to be close to their grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Ed is survived by his sons, Timothy J. Malone of Seattle, WA, and Michael E. Malone and his wife, Maria, of Harleysville, PA; his siblings, Janet MacFalda, and Thomas P. Malone; and his grandchildren, Nicholas Edward, Alexander Joseph, and Michaela Lynn.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral Mass at 11 AM on Tuesday, January 18, 2022, at St. Eleanor Catholic Church, 647 Locust St. Collegeville, PA 19426, where the family will receive friends for the viewing from 10-10:45 AM.
