Obituary of George P. Heller

George P. Heller, 88, of Limerick, PA, passed away Tuesday, January 11, 2022, at Pottstown Hospital. He was the beloved husband of the Late Mary Teresa (Hickey) Heller, to whom he was married for over 48 years and who passed away in 2008.

Born September 8, 1933, in Bryn Mawr, PA, he was a son of the late George B. and Grace M. (Callahan) Heller. He was a graduate of Lower Merion High School class of 1953. At age 18, George was an assistant to his Chief Petty Officer Burrow, USN, and helped hold up the boot camp standards for seventy-eight men – company 238 of Bain bridge MD. At boot camp graduation, George was voted Honor Men of his company, which was quite an honor. Also, during his Navy years, he administered the United States Armed Forces Institute courses and GED test from 1953 to 1954 while serving aboard the USS Grand Canyon AD-28.

Mr. Heller was a prominent, loving, devoted member of Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Schwenksville, PA, and a long-time friend to Fr. Bellopede. Along with his wife, Mary Teresa, he enjoyed Saint Patrick’s Day (Mary, being from Ireland) and a lot of camping when the children were younger. He and Mary enjoyed going up to the Cape Cod area – Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket. They enjoyed the shore, particularly the Ocean Front and the Casinos. George and Mary cherished so much and all the time they could with their family. He and Mary had all the love in the world for their grandchildren and enjoyed so much, such as their schooling and so many sports activities, as they did with their own children.

Mr. Heller was employed as a police officer in Ambler, PA, and worked for the state of Pennsylvania for 16 years. After taking early retirement, he owned a new 7-11 franchise in West Chester, PA. George was franchise of the year for his 7/11 district store from 1986-1987. George loved all sports, particularly football and baseball. When he did play golf, he loved doing so. He was an active volunteer firefighter for the Gladwyne Fire Company for seven years.
