Lee Haines

Obituary of Lee W. Haines

Lee Weston Haines, 84, a long-time resident of Schwenksville, PA, passed away Thursday, August 12, 2021. He and his wife, Dolores Joyce (Shellenberger) Haines, celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary on June 28th of this year.

Born October 17, 1936, in Norristown, PA, he was a son of the late Donald and Helen (Jefferies) Haines. He was a 1954 graduate of Norristown High School and attended Temple University.

Mr. Haines was employed in electronics with the former Burroughs Corporation. He later worked for Jacob Schmidt and Son, Inc., Stainless Steel & Hardware, of Harleysville, PA, and retired in 2001. He was a former member of Calvary Baptist Church of Norristown, PA. His hobbies included woodworking and drawing.

“Poppop” will be loved and remembered for a great many things. From jitterbug contests and racing trains in his younger years to continuing a teasing and witty sense of humor in his later years, he reminded his family and friends to have fun throughout his lifetime. He showed his love in a number of ways, both tangible and intangible. Birthday and special occasion cards often exhibited his artwork, and celebrations, or even just everyday life, would be accentuated by his dance skills. Whether he was playing video games with them in his garage, sneaking little ones an extra scoop of ice cream, or just communicating on their level; he had a wonderful way of meeting those he loved where they were. Wrapping paper fights were a staple of every Christmas, and a playful wink of his eye often accompanied his well-known affectionate teasing of his wife. He also showed us how to enjoy the quieter moments of life, often being found with a Wawa coffee, and newspaper or crossword puzzle in hand. His influence over those he loved and held dear is immeasurable and will be reflected for generations to come.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Tracy Lee Moyer and her husband, Mike, of Collegeville, PA, and Denise Joyce Cotterino and her husband, Joe, of Wiconisco, PA. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Steven Michael Moyer and his wife, Diana, of Norfolk, VA, and their children, Connor Stephen, Jaxon Andrew and Romayne Elizabeth; Taylor Justin Moyer, of Promiseland, PA, and his daughter, Ella Katherine; and Cecilia Noelle Sayre and her husband, Luke, of Tunkhannock, PA, and their children, Annette Noelle, Rosemary Joyce and Betsy Donnalee; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by four siblings, Dorothy Hacker, June Daily, Wesley Haines and Donald Haines.
