Obituary of Dennis L. Alderfer
Dennis L. Alderfer, 82, formerly of Skippack, PA, passed away Friday morning, July 16, 2021, at Dock Woods Community in Towamencin Township, PA. He and his wife, Joan (Herr) Alderfer, celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary on April 23rd of this year.
Born March 19, 1939, in Hatfield, PA, he was a son of the late John M. and Madelyn (Freed) Alderfer. He was a graduate of Pennridge High School and earned a bachelor’s degree from Ursinus College.
Mr. Alderfer was a certified public accountant, retiring in 2019. He was an active member of Central Schwenkfelder Church where he sang in the choir and served on the Mission Board. He was a former president of the United Choir and previously served on the board of directors at Meadowood Senior Living. At Dock Woods Community, he was past president of the Resident’s Council and also past president of the Flag Committee. He sang in the choir and was an active participant in many of the social and sporting activities offered by the retirement community. Mr. Alderfer’s hobbies included golf, downhill and cross-country skiing, hiking, hunting and fishing.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Cheryl Birk and her husband, Thomas, of Bradenton, FL, and Lynn Alderfer and her partner, Jim Jackson, of Quakertown, PA; a son, David Alderfer and his fiancé, Sandra McGoldrick, of Vernfield, PA; and two siblings, Lee Alderfer of California, and Darlene Brunk and her husband, Jerry, of Lansdale, PA. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Sarah Hula (Jay), William Birk, Molly Birk, Melissa Boyd (Carey), Charles Alderfer (Leslie Humlhanz) and Hannah Alderfer (Marcus Howell); and a great grandchild, Jace Hula.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Larry Alderfer and his wife, Mary.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his memorial service at 11am on Friday, July 30, 2021, at Central Schwenkfelder Church, 2111 S Valley Forge Road, Lansdale, PA, 19446, where family will receive friends from 10-10:45am. Interment will follow in the adjoining church cemetery.
