Obituary of Charles Hagelin
Charles S. “Chuck” Hagelin, 87, of Worcester passed away Monday, May 31, 2021, at Abington Jefferson Hospital in Abington. He was the beloved husband of the late Mary Ann (Garrity) Hagelin, who passed in 2008.
Born June 20, 1933, in Owego, NY he was a son of the late Eloise (Storrs) Hagelin.
Mr. Hagelin was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church. He had deep Christian Catholic faith and was generous in supporting many causes including the Catholic Relief Services and Catholic Charities, among others. He received his bachelor of science degree from the State University of New York’s Maritime Academy at Fort Schuyler, and his Masters of Arts degree with a focus on Political Science, from Villanova University in Pennsylvania. Chuck served in the US Navy Reserve until he was honorably discharged in 1964. He was employed in the Aerospace defense industry for almost 40 years, most notably as Plant Manager for General Electric’s Re-Entry Systems organization in Philadelphia. Chuck and his wife, Mary Ann, raised their family in the Philadelphia suburbs, as well as in Cincinnati, Ohio. They were married for just over fifty-two years before her passing. He was a proud supporter of all of his kid's sporting achievements including coaching little league for many years. He was a loving grandfather who never forgot a birthday and always kept up to speed with what his six grandkids, Megan, Bryan, Luke, Caroline, Nicholas, Sean, and two step-granddaughters Julia, and Lauren were up to. Chuck always had a special place in his heart for his four daughters-in-law, Monica, Lesa, Therese, and Anita, loving the fact that he was able to have daughters to complement his five sons.
Chuck was an avid book reader of historical fiction and non-fiction alike and an avid golfer. He enjoyed long walks, strenuous hikes, and being outside. Following Mary Ann’s passing, Chuck became an active member of the Meadowood community participating in and leading many of the residence initiatives. Together with his partner and loving companion, Judy McGovern, they traveled frequently both domestically and internationally, exploring new places, cultures, and enjoying the historical significance of the region.
