Richard M. Thornton, Sr., of Skippack, passed away Friday, December 18, 2020, at Einstein Montgomery Medical Center in East Norriton at the age of 79. Richard, known to all as Rick, was born in Granby, MO, on November 6th, 1941.
Rick is survived by his two sons, Gary Thornton of New Hope, PA, and Richard Thornton, Jr. of Lebanon, TN; and his beloved grandchildren, Edin and Lucy; and many friends.
Rick was a son of the late Charles and Rachel (Richardson) Thornton. He was a graduate of Granby High School. Rick was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Rachel Thornton; and his brother, Edward Michael Thornton.
After high school, Rick proudly served his country in the United States Navy and continued on to serve in the reserves. Upon leaving the military, Rick was employed as a highly regarded auto body mechanic with Churchville Autobody. He started his own business that he ran until his passing, operating Rick Thornton Trucking. Rick was an active member of the Skippack Historical Society and a constant presence in town. His greatest professional passion in life was serving Montgomery County as a Pennsylvania State Constable.
