Obituary of Gerald J. Coyle

Gerald J. Coyle, 88, a resident of Lower Frederick, PA, for over 40 years, passed away Saturday afternoon, December 26, 2020. He was the husband of the late Nancy R. (Brennan) Coyle, who passed away in 2012. They were married for over 57 years at the time of her passing.


Born August 11, 1932, in Philadelphia, PA, he was a son of the late Gerald and Marie (Slater) Coyle. He was a graduate of Roxborough High School where he participated in football, basketball and track and was active as an alumni. He also attended St. Joseph University.


Mr. Coyle was employed as an Energy Consultant for Commercial Business Accounts with PECO for 45 years. He was an active member of the Goshenhoppen Historical Society for many years, where he also served as a board member. Mr. Coyle participated annually in the Goschenhoppen Folk Festival in many different roles as an Itinerant Tradesperson, Farmer and for many years as a store owner selling,”Mr. Coyle’s Funnel cakes.” He strongly believed in the philosophy of this society entwining tradition, history, community and family. He was a sports enthusiast and loved arguing and discussing the merits and pitfalls of his favorite teams. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed fishing at the Jersey shore, the Outer Banks and in the Perkiomen Creek; his own backyard. After retirement, he enjoyed his time gardening, raising sheep and sitting on his beautiful front porch with his wife, reading and watching the local wildlife.  Mr. Coyle loved nothing better than to make his grandchildren laugh and giggle. He cherished time with his family as they cherished the time they spent with him.


Surviving are seven children, Lee Ann Stratton and her husband, Thomas, of Marlton, NJ, Mark Coyle and his wife, Linda, of Hartford, CT, Kelly Heidler and her husband, Jeff, of West Norriton, PA, Patricia Williamson and her husband, Jerry, of Philadelphia, PA, Colleen Sharkey and her husband, Frank, of Perkiomenville, PA, Christina Charles of Perkiomenville, PA, and Bethanne Smith and her husband, Steven, of Schwenksville, PA. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and a sister, Ellen Levito.


In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Coyle; and a son, Robert Coyle.

In light of restrictions on public gatherings, a memorial service will take place at a later time. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Childhood Leukemia Foundation at Arrangements are by the R. L. Williams, Jr. Funeral Home, Inc. of Skippack, PA.
