Obituary of Archie H. Steffen

Archie H. Steffen, 95, of Harleysville, formerly of Collegeville, passed away Friday, June 26, 2020, at Grand View Hospital in Sellersville. He was the beloved husband of Dorothy (Williams ) Steffen to whom he was married for over 73 years.

 

Born February 8, 1925, in Bethlehem, he was a son of the late Archie R. and Verta (Keck) Steffen.

Archie served his country in the United States Navy during WWII on the USS Leedstown, receiving 6 battle stars in the Pacific Campaign including the Marshall Islands, and Iwo Jima, and 2 in Philippine liberation, he also received the purple heart.

 

Arch (Brut as his family called him) enjoyed building and woodworking. He built his own first home in Bethlehem. He worked in the pattern shop at  Bethlehem Steel then moved to Collegeville where he worked at GE Spacecenter building models of spacecraft and satellites until he retired. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoyed hunting, and archery, even making his own bows.  Arch loved taking cross country camping trips on his motorcycle to places such as the Grand Canyon and Alaska. He also enjoyed roller skating and dancing with "the skating group". He will be missed.

 

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Gary Steffen and his wife, Rose, of Hellertown, and Deborah Keir and her husband, Ritchie, of Trumbauersville; his siblings, Evelyn, Ray and Lee, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

 

He was preceded in death by his daughter Sandra Allen, and his siblings, Ginny and Joyce.

 

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his graveside service at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, July 7th,  at Friedensville Cemetery, 2451 Saucon Valley Rd., Friedensville, PA 18034. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Disabled American Veterans at www.dav.org.
