Sue Ann Merritt, aged 82, a long-time resident of the Peter Becker Community in Harleysville, PA, passed away Saturday, March 21, 2020. She and her husband, Joseph Francis Merritt, were blessed with more than 55 years of loving marriage prior to his passing last year.
Before moving to Peter Becker, she and her husband lived at the Providence Green townhome community in Lower Providence, PA for more than 15 years, where they came to be known, affectionately, by all the neighborhood children as "Aunt Sue and Uncle Joe", and before then, she and her husband lived in a multi-generational home with their children, her mother, her sister and brother-in-law, and two nieces, in a tightly-knit neighborhood filled with block parties and other less formal gatherings on Fremont Street in Harrison, NY for more than 30 years.
Born May 14, 1937, in New York, NY, she was the daughter of the late Pasquale Rispole and Anne Goral Rispole. She graduated from New Rochelle High School first in her business class and went on to serve as an Administrative Assistant at Columbia Gas Company and American Can Company. She later worked as a Human Resource Specialist at James River Company, forging important, long term ties with several coworkers along the way who became dear friends that she held close to heart throughout her life. She started the Mah Jong club at Peter Becker, and also enjoyed spending time with her card group, playing various games and holding dinners together. Although she enjoyed many interests, nothing compared to her love, joy, and passion for her family, particularly her children, grandchildren, and her nieces, nephews, and their children, in whose company she delighted.
She is survived by two daughters, Julie Merritt Pacaro and her husband, Anthony D. Pacaro, Jr., of Worcester, PA, and Pamela Merritt Nilsson and her husband, C. Michael Nilsson, of Moreland Hills, OH; her sister, Lucille Rispole Marsala of Danbury, CT; her five grandchildren, Anthony Daniel Pacaro, III, Michael Joseph Pacaro, Thomas William Pacaro, Erik Michael Nilsson, and Solvej Hanna Nilsson; and by many nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews, all of whom she held dear.
Relatives and friends will be invited to a memorial service that will be held at a later date. Interment will be private at Greenwood Union Cemetery in Rye, NY. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that you consider making a contribution in her memory to support the wonderful community of residents and staff where she lived at Peter Becker, by donating to the Peter Becker Benevolent Fund, 800 Maple Avenue, Harleysville, PA 19438.
