Obituary of Bill Horrocks
A. William “Bill’ Horrocks, 82, of Collegeville, passed away Thursday, January 23, 2020, at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia. He was the beloved husband of Caryl (Bumm) Horrocks to whom he was married for over 57 years.
Born December 21, 1937, in Lansdale, he was a son of the late Arthur and Madeline (Weber) Horrocks. Bill was a graduate of Norristown High School, and a graduate of Muhlenberg College class of 1959, where he was a member of the cross country team and Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity.
He was a member of Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran Church where he served on the church council and finance committee. He served in the Army National Guard and was a lifetime member and past President of the Norriton Fire Engine Company. Bill was employed with the Philadelphia Electric Company until his retirement in 1991. He founded and was the corporate leader of Horrocks Fire & Rescue Apparatus from 1967 to present. He was a member of the School Board of Perkiomen Valley School District, highlighted by his involvement in the planning and construction of the Perkiomen Valley High School.
During his retirement from PECO, Bill pursued his passion for antique farm tractors and annually drove them in the Skippack 4th of July parade. He enjoyed attending the many activities and events of his grandchildren and continued his involvement in the management of Horrocks Fire and Rescue Apparatus.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Brian Horrocks of Boyertown and Kimberly Tyson and her husband, Tim of Collegeville; and his four grandchildren Brayden, Trent, Shayn, and Paige.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service at 11 AM on Friday, January 31, 2020, at the R. L. Williams, Jr. Funeral Home, Inc. Skippack. Friends may call for the viewing on Thursday from 6-8 PM at the funeral home and again on Friday from 10-10:45 AM. Interment will follow at Schwenksville Cemetery.
