Obituary of Geraldine Hasapes
Geraldine “Gerri” Bukata-Hasapes, age 72, died peacefully at her home in bed on Wednesday, August 28th, surrounded by her mother, brothers, and children. She leaves behind her mother, Elsie; brothers, Rick, Chris, and Mark; children, Nick, Kate, and Ali; grandchildren, Rachael, Samantha, and Elias; daughter-in-law, Lindsay; son-in-law, Jason; and a widespread web of extended loving family. She is seeing again her father, Walter, and daughter, Adrienne.
Gerri had a successful career in medicine, starting out as a physician’s assistant at Roxborough Hospital where she worked in the emergency room. The majority of her professional career was spent working with her brothers to grow the Center for Medical Education where she was the Executive Editor. Through this career, she was able to travel all over the United States and into Central America for work. Her favorite spot was Key West, where the support staff all knew her by her first name. Some of her children’s fondest memories growing up were tagging along with mom on her work trips.
While Gerri had a strong dedication to her work, she also enjoyed many adventures and hobbies. She was an avid reader, gardener, traveler, dog rescue enthusiast, and made sure the deer in her backyard were always well fed. In her young adulthood, Gerri fell in love with Spain while on vacation and decided to stay for seven years. In her older years, her love of murder mysteries spanned both books and television. If you went to visit, the Investigation Discovery channel was almost always on.
Above all, she loved her family. She instilled in her children strong values of hard work, dedication in all pursuits, and the keystone importance of family. She will be missed more than words can express, but warmly remembered in all they do through life.
A viewing for Gerri will be held at R.L. Williams Jr. Funeral Home, 3440 West Skippack Pike, Cedars, on Wednesday, September 4th, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. A celebration of Gerri’s life will follow on Friday, September 6th, beginning at 11:00 am with a brief service starting at 11:30. Gerri’s burial will be private, but she will be laid to rest at St. Mary’s Ukranian Cemetery in Elkins Park. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the Darren Daulton Foundation or Home At Last Dog Rescue.
