Robert E. Bauer, age 92, of Lansdale, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 24, 2019. He was the beloved husband of the late Grace (Brunbeck) Bauer.
Born December 31, 1926 in Brooklyn NY, he was the only child of the late John and Emily (Smith) Bauer.
Robert (Bob) graduated high school (Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute) in June 1944 and enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserves. He was called to duty in 1945 and was studying to be a bomber radio operator when the war ended. He studied mechanical engineering at Stevens Institute of Technology, graduating in 1950. In June 1950 he received a commission in the Army Reserve retiring with the rank of Captain in 1964. He married Grace in 1950 and they were together for over sixty years. He worked for more than thirty years as an engineer and manager in the manufacturing industry and his career allowed for him to live in six east coast states. He and Grace retired to Lake Monticello, Virginia in 1988 and moved to Meadowood in 2006. He enjoyed traveling and played many rounds of golf and games of bridge in his thirty years of retired life.
Robert is survived by his children Janet Upperco and her husband Alan, Alan Bauer and his wife Ann; grandchildren Michael Upperco and his wife Inna Savluk, David Upperco and his wife Tara, Karen Randall and her husband Will, Matthew Bauer and his wife Emma Brink, Laura Bauer and Kristen Bauer; great grandchildren Andrew, Julian, Jameson Upperco and Nicole and Danny Savluk.
Family and friends are invited to attend his memorial service at 12:00 PM on Saturday, June 1, 2019 at The R. L. Williams, Jr. Funeral Home Inc., Skippack Pike at Cedars Road, where the family will greet guests from 11:00 – 11:45 AM. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Robert’s name may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
