Allen L. Byrd, Sr., 75, a long-time resident of Skippack, PA, passed away Saturday, April 20, 2019. He and his wife, Shirley K. (Copenhaver) Byrd, observed their 26th wedding anniversary on October 3rd of last year.
Born September 3, 1943, in Baltimore, MD, he was a son of the late William and Blanche (Hincher) Byrd. He was a graduate of Parkville High School.
Mr. Byrd was a self-employed welder. He was a member of Brownback’s United Church of Christ in Spring City, PA, and was a 32nd degree mason and a member of Warren Lodge #310 F. &.A.M. of Collegeville, PA.
Al was a car guy. He loved driving and working on cars, watching NASCAR, and attending drag races. He could often be found at car shows proudly showing off his 1962 Chevrolet Bel Air. He also enjoyed following Philadelphia sports teams and vacationing in the Caribbean. Al was always willing to lend a hand to someone in need, and cherished time spent with his family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Denice Harrison and her husband, James, of Royersford, PA; a son, Allen Byrd, Jr. of Limerick, PA; and three stepdaughters, Dawn Patrick and her husband, Michael, of Rotonda West, FL, Alicia Vento and her husband, Michael, of Limerick, PA, and Krista Rosenthal of Pottstown and her fiancé, Brett Cutillo. He is also survived by a brother, Dale Byrd and his wife, Pat, of Monton, MD; ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Family will receive friends from 6 PM - 8 PM on Thursday evening, April 25, 2019, at R. L. Williams, Jr. Funeral Home, Inc., 3440 Skippack Pike at Cedars Road, Skippack, PA, and again on Friday from 10-10:45 AM. The memorial service will then begin at 11 AM at the funeral home on Friday.
