Joseph Francis Merritt, 84, a resident of Peter Becker Community in Harleysville, PA for the last two years, passed away Saturday, March 9, 2019. He and his wife, Sue Ann (Rispole) Merritt, observed their 57th wedding anniversary on September 30th of last year. They had resided in Collegeville, PA and Harrison, NY prior to moving to Harleysville, PA.
Born August 22, 1934, in New Rochelle, NY, he was the son of the late Francis Garbarino and Cecilia Merritt. He was a graduate of New Rochelle High School. He was a U. S. Army veteran who was stationed in Germany and sang with the Army Chorus.
Mr. Merritt was employed with Sears, Roebuck and Company for over 35 years as a television repairman. He was an active member of St. Eleanor Catholic Church in Collegeville, PA where he sang with the Spirit Revival Band. He had many interests but his greatest joy was time spent with his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Pamela Merritt Nilsson and her husband, C. Michael Nilsson, of Moreland Hills, OH, and Julie Merritt Pacaro and her husband, Anthony D. Pacaro, Jr., of Worcester, PA; a sister, Cecelia Burrell of White Plains, NY; and five grandchildren, Anthony Daniel Pacaro, III, Michael Joseph Pacaro, Thomas William Pacaro, Erik Michael Nilsson, and Solvej Hanna Nilsson.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral mass at 11AM on Saturday, March 16, 2019, at St. Eleanor Catholic Church, 647 Locust Street, Collegeville, PA. The family will be receiving family and friends at the church prior to the start of mass from 10-10:50AM. Following the mass, all are welcome to gather with the family for lunch at his favorite restaurant, Gino's, located at 2401 West Main Street in Norristown, PA. Interment will be private at Greenwood Union Cemetery in Rye, NY. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Peter Becker Benevolent Fund, 800 Maple Avenue, Harleysville, PA 19438. Arrangements are by the R. L.
