Obituary of Edmund Pires, Sr.

 

Edmund M. Pires, Sr., 83, passed away Wednesday, January 9, 2019, surrounded by his loving Family.  Mr. Pires was a resident of Collegeville for over 50 years and the beloved husband of the late Jane (Cain) Pires

 

Born July 30, 1935, in Swedeland, PA, he was one of 4 children born to the late Antonio and Palmira Pires of the King Manor section of Upper Merion Township.  He was a graduate of Upper Merion High School class of 1954 where he excelled in football, baseball, and basketball.  Mr. Pires was a member of the Army Reserves and a member of St Eleanor’s Catholic Church in Collegeville for over 50 years. He retired from the United States Postal Service as Postmaster. 

 

Mr. Pires was a devoted husband, father and pop-pop.  He is survived by four sons;  Edmund M. Pires, Jr. of Collegeville, Russell M. Pires of Collegeville, Charles M. Pires and his wife, Kathy, of Phoenixville, and Michael T. Pires and his wife, Lauren, of Audubon; one son-in-law, Brian C. Miller, Sr., husband of the late Janice Pires Miller; eleven grandchildren, Edmund Marques Pires, III, Carly Flynn, Christopher, Sarah, Brian, Jr., John, Matthew, Kelly, Brady, Mary Jane, Molly, Andrew; and one great-granddaughter, Josephina Pires.

 

He was preceded in death by his siblings, Albert Pires, Salvador Pires, and Madeline Gilette.

 

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing from 9:00-10:45 AM Wednesday, January 16, 2019, at Saint Patrick Church, 714 DeKalb Street, Norristown, PA  19401, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 AM.  Interment will follow at Limerick Garden of Memories, 44 Swamp Pike, Limerick PA.
