Obituary of Barbara Kott

Barbara Carpenter Kott passed peacefully on September 13, 2018, at home with her family after a courageous fight against gallbladder cancer.  She was born June 6, 1944, to Harry and Janet Spelt Carpenter in Philadelphia.  After graduating from Frankford High School, she received a Bachelor of Arts from Penn State University and a Masters in Counseling from Villanova University.  She was married for 50 years to William E. Kott.  She is survived by her husband, daughter Kristin L. Kott and husband Steven A. Granda, son William E. Kott Jr. and wife Jessica H. Kott, daughter Amy K. Corr and husband Michael N. Corr, and 8 grandchildren- Kylie, Piper, Tatum, Michael, Petra, Owen, Carmen, and Carissa.  Barbara was a newly retired counselor at Perkiomen Valley Middle School East. 


Barbara had a passion for helping others evident in her vocation and life. She dedicated herself to giving to those in need, which included forming a Bereavement Group to support children who had experienced the loss of a loved one.  She was an avid gardener and spent her summers at the shore in Ocean City, NJ with her family and many friends. Barbara was raised by a close-knit family - her maternal grandmother, mother, 3 aunts, two uncles, and many cousins. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the League of Women Voters, and Saint James Episcopal Church.


Visitation will be held Sunday, September 16, 2018, from 4-7 PM at R.L.Williams Jr. Funeral Home.  Funeral service will be Monday, September 17, 2018, at 10:00 AM at Saint James Episcopal Church in Evansburg followed by interment at the Church cemetery.


In lieu of flowers, we ask that any donations be made in honor of Barbara to GI Cancer Research at Penn Medicine’s Abramson Cancer Center c/o of Andrew Bellet, 3535 Market Street, Suite 750, Philadelphia, PA 19104.
