Edward F. Urick, 86, formerly of Perkiomenville, PA and Skippack, PA, passed away at his residence at Shannondell at Valley Forge in Audubon, PA, on Wednesday, February 5, 2020. He was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine “Gerry” (Pettit) Urick, on October 18, 2003.
Born April 18, 1933, in Philadelphia, PA, he was a son of the late Joseph and Katharine “Katie” (Furmaniak) Urick, both of whom had emigrated from Poland in the early 1900s. He was the youngest of seven children and was preceded in death by his siblings, Stanley, Julie, Charles, Joseph, Katharine and Florence.
Mr. Urick was a graduate of Bok Vocational School, where he pursued an interest in upholstery, and actually met his wife Gerry, who was training to be a seamstress. The couple was married in 1953 and went on to have three daughters, raising them in Skippack, PA.
Mr Urick was a U. S. Air Force veteran, serving his country from 1953-1957. He received his Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering from Spring Garden Institute. He was employed as a Field Engineer for General Electric for over 30 years, retiring in 1993. He later worked for DX Imaging and then Eastman Kodak/Sterling Winthrop.
Mr. Urick was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was actively involved with C.Y.O. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Schwenksville, PA. He was a Red Cross volunteer and an active member of the Phoenixville Y.M.C.A. His hobbies included travel, reading and golf. He was a passionate follower of the Philadelphia sports teams and in his younger years he enjoyed playing volleyball and basketball.
Surviving are three daughters, Karen U. Prince of West Norriton, PA, Suzan Urick of Collegeville, PA, and Gwyn Lauder and her husband, Alan, of Malvern, PA. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Kati, and her husband Mike, Casey, Arianna, Aiden, Paige and Tyler; and a great grandson, Blake.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral mass at 10am on Friday, February 14, 2020, at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church, 1260 South Trooper Road, Norristown, PA, where family will receive friends from 8:45am-9:45am. Interment will follow at George Washington Memorial Park in Plymouth Meeting, PA.
